About

The PGA Cup began in 1973. Great Britain & Ireland (GB&I) claimed their first victory in 1978 with a 10.5–6.5 win at St. Mellion. Their first win on American soil came in 2015 at CordeValle, California, edging the USA 13.5–12.5.

What began as the prize awarded to Percy Alliss’ winning team in the inaugural Home Tournament Series, the Llandudno International Trophy was later donated to The PGA by his son, Peter Alliss. Since then, it has become the official trophy awarded to the winning team of the PGA Cup. The PGA of America are the current holders of the Llandudno International Trophy, with a 17.5–8.5 victory at Sunriver Resort, Oregon.

To date, the United States leads the all-time series with 20 wins, compared to 7 for GB&I, with 4 matches ending in ties.

In 2026, The K Club in County Kildare, Ireland, becomes the first venue in the 53-year history of the PGA Cup to host the event three times. It previously staged the competition in 1992 and again in 2005—a year fondly remembered for GB&I’s 15–11 triumph under the leadership of the late Jim Farmer, a respected figure in the Association.
