A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Colin Ancsell began his year as the South Region’s captain at the region’s 2024 annual general meeting, with outgoing captain Wraith Grant presenting Colin with the blue blazer that signifies that holder of this prestigious role.

Ancsell, the head professional at Richings Park Golf Club, said: “It’s a privilege and an honour to be South Region’s Captain for the coming year. Wraith has left some pretty big boots to fill and I hope I can carry on with his good work.”

“The region has been going through something of a managerial revolution which has been exciting to be part of and bodes well for the future of the region. I look forward to helping Fiona Champness, Darren Noel and the rest of the team in any way possible.

“I think 2024 is going to be a great year for the region with the tournament schedule as busy as ever. I intend to play in as many events as possible and my door is always open, so please don’t hesitate to stop and chat.”

Colin qualified as a PGA professional 38 years ago, having started out as a trainee at Woodcote Park Golf Club in the early 1980s. He went on to work under Colin Clingan at Windmill Hill Golf Club in Milton Keynes before moving to the prestigious Stoke Park Club. A switch to become Head Professional at Richings Park Golf Club took place 12 years ago and with the opportunity to lease the driving range he has further cemented his position at the club.

Colin has also been on The PGA in England - South committee for the last four years and works closely to support BB&O PGA secretary Martin Morbey.
