The PGA Accelerator Series features live educational webinars where participants will gain essential insights and strategies on how to develop their careers in the golf industry.
Adam Keable of Colt Mackenzie McNair will deliver the third webinar of the PGA Accelerator Series on December 1st: Build a Career Pathway in Golf.
Keable has a passion for Continuing Personal Development and motivating people to stay alert and ready for new opportunities.
Keable completed the Applied Golf Management Studies degree at the University of Birmingham, then a Masters in Marketing at Royal Holloway in London.
After working at Burhill Golf Club, he launched a start-up called Cadin – a platform for golfers and coaches to connect. In 2014, he joined Colt Mackenzie McNair as a brand manager and became a director two years later.
Keable is involved in recruitment and building networks at CMM and here explains how he can help PGA Members with this topic, and what you will learn from this session.
Why are you ideally placed to present a webinar about building a career pathway in golf?
I have a fairly intimate knowledge of a number of leading clients across the global industry. Through CMM, I've been fortunate to work in all continents of the world in lots of different verticals and sectors.
It's not just PGA pros, but tourism, consumer goods, OEMs and professional services. I get to see the evolution of how the workplace has changed over the years, how the generational changes of management have led to different cultures, management styles and environments, and I've just been very close to, especially on the education front, what people are either doing or what's being offered, whether that's through the workplace associations or on a wider basis.
How I tend to look at these sessions is, there's 101 things you can do, but what are the common denominators of the best in class? What do they do? What do the top 5 per cent do that gives them the edge?
The shaping of this session is always that when you're building a career, it's tough. Fundamentally, you have to deliver in your role. That's what you're going to be known for, versus just the brand name. But secondly, we are in a fairly limited industry in some respects and how you build that career in a very niche industry in the grand scheme of things is really important.
What you don't want to do is to feel like when you are ready to make a move, and say, somebody is now looking to 2026 to make that move, their only action can't be, I'm going to sit on job boards and refresh it every day, because that's just a really powerless position to be in.
It's about how do you go from the position of feeling slightly powerless in some respects, to where it's all about timing, it's all about being reactive to what's in the market, and then looking at people who have developed their careers, but really getting to a position of power.
What are the main things the attendees will learn from the webinar?
It's definitely about understanding your USP as a potential employee. I would say about putting in some career planning activities, so what should you be doing over the next 12 months?
I think a little bit of empowerment to go and make it happen, versus just sitting behind the screen and hope things come to you.

Who would benefit most from attending your webinar?
Anyone at any stage of their career. I use a similar method on a one-to-one basis with people who are 55, right through to school leavers and graduates, and again, it's different challenges at different levels, but the theory all relates no matter what level.
It definitely suits someone who is actively looking to develop their career, versus if you're passive and you're happy where you are and you can't see yourself moving for five years.
There'll definitely be takeaways, but it's if somebody is feeling like they want to build a career, but also, there's bit more urgency around it.
What would you say to someone who was unsure whether to attend?
A lot of what we're going to talk about isn't a trend or a fad, these are some key principles that will carry through your whole career. Like anything in life, whether it's being a social media algorithm, if you're marketing, whether it's trying to develop the next membership products, if you're a club manager, there is a reliance on trends and fads.
With the stuff that I talk to, it's very human-centric. No matter how much A.I. and technology advances, there are still going to be some really important human principles at play when it comes to getting hired.
