Brown and Cook claim 2025 PGA Super 60’s title, White and Head win Superb 70’s

Gary Brown of Ganton Golf Club and his amateur partner Graham Cook were deserving winners of the 2025 PGA Super 60’s title with a total score of 87, while Murray White and amateur Robert Head secured the Superb 70’s honours.

Held at Cardrona Hotel, Spa and Resort in Peebles, Scotland, the PGA Super 60’s is open to both PGA Members and amateurs aged 60 and over and despite the northern trek for many, 72 teams entered the 36-hole betterball event.

The Ganton pair were delighted with their performance. Reflecting on their win, Brown said: "We wanted to do well. We came second last year and we’ve done great. I’ve got a great partner. I thought we’d do all right, but I’m delighted to have won."

Cook added: "We’re really competitive. Gary gives it 110%. He is the pro down at Ganton, where I’m a member, and we’ve played a lot of golf together."

Reflecting on key moments, Brown said: "To get it in play off the tee on 16 is difficult, particularly when under pressure, so I think that was a key moment."

"17 was also playing difficult. There are some tough holes coming in, as everything seemed to be playing into the wind," Cook added.

"All the guys we played with, both the pros and amateurs, have been really good, Cook concluded

“You couldn’t have wished for better competitors than the four we played against."

The dynamic duo got off to a flyer in round one, scoring an impressive 45 Stableford points. Fast forward 24 hours and they showed no signs of slowing down, carding 42 points for a total of 87.

The pair were closely followed by Graeme Bell and Stephen Taylor, who, despite also scoring 42 points on day two, finished just one shot behind. Last year’s winners, Daryl St John Jones and Colin Walkden, tied for third after a brilliant second-round display.

The tournament also awarded a trophy in the Superb 70s category for PGA Professionals and amateurs aged 70 and over. PGA Professional Murray White and partner Robert Head were worthy winners, putting together two consistent rounds of 39 points. In second place, Chingford’s Gordon Goldie and amateur Geoff King finished three points back on 75.

The host venue, Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Spa, proved popular among players. Director of Golf, Chris Curran, said:

"It’s been a huge honour for Cardrona and myself to help run the event this week. We’d love to have more events like this in the future. The quality of players is phenomenal – and these guys still hit it a long way."

"This course is difficult off the tee. If you go offline, you’re losing a ball, and the greens were set up pretty quick – they’re slopey too. They’ve had it tough out there, but some of the scoring has been phenomenal, so they’ve obviously taken to it quite well."

"The guest reception has been great. A few members have been watching and we’ve had guys down from Peebles as well. It’s been a great and very well-run event."
