A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

An impressive 3-under 69 in the final round was more than enough to see off the chasing pack as Harry Casey surged to victory at the 2025 PGA Professional Championship at Ingrebourne Links.

Essex's Ingrebourne is a relatively recent addition to the golfing landscape, having opened less than a decade ago. Designed by PGA Master Professional and former PGA Captain Alan Walker, the par-72 course offers a modern take on traditional links golf, open in appearance and playing style yet set inland rather than on the coast. Its exposed layout has quickly built its reputation as a true championship test, particularly when the wind begins to swirl.

And pick up it did. Blustery conditions persisted throughout all 72 holes of the championship, but it was four consecutive rounds under par that ultimately set Casey apart from the rest.

With a midday start in round one, The Shire professional began the week with a 4-under 68, a score bettered by just two players on the day. He followed up with rounds of 70 and another 68, climbing steadily past the early front-runners. A composed closing 69 saw him reach a winning total of 13-under-par, maintaining the three-shot lead he’d created for himself heading into the final round.

Reflecting on the win, Casey said: "I'm over the moon to win this championship. It's been a brilliant week.

"Over four days and on such a great golf course, it's been fantastic to be in contention with so many brilliant pros and to win this trophy means a lot to me.

"I split my time between coaching and playing because I still love playing and I still have ambitions. But this one was particularly a good one to win."

With a fast start, Casey birdied holes 2 and 3, though a bogey at 4 briefly halted his momentum. He steadied the ship with a birdie two on 8, and all but sealed his victory with another birdie at the 14th, a 192-yard par-3.

The eventual winner was chased down early on by Clevedon’s Ashley Mansell (pictured) and, eventually, Rochester and Cobham professional Zak Morgan, both posting final rounds of 68. Meanwhile, Andrew Willey ended his day with a 69, as the trio tied for second, three shots back.

Willey had placed himself in an ideal position after 36 holes and was top of the pack, but a costly 2-over 74 in round three left him too much ground to recover on the final day.

Ben Amor’s strong finish saw him round off the week with a tidy 68 to share the spotlight with Toby Hunt who also finished the day in the red. The pair ended the championship tied fifth with a 9-under total.

Defending champion Craig Lee couldn’t quite replicate last year’s form. Two rounds over par meant he finished in a tie for 21st.
