A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Ed Goodwin continued his purple patch of form in the latest Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucester & Somerset PGA Winter Series at Clevedon but had to share the winner’s enclosure with Cirencester club-mate Adam Gaskins.

The pair posted two under par rounds of 70 in what proved a good day for pros from the Gloucestershire club as Mark Plummer and Adam’s brother Luke finished in the top five.

Goodwin went into the event buoyed by a victory and two second places in his last three outings and that was evident from the start as he reached the turn in three-under.

The first blips of his round followed at 13 and 16 before he signed off with a birdie at 18.

By contrast, Gaskins, a Trainee, was left to reflect on what might have been when, after leaving the 17th on three-under, he bogeyed the last to miss out on outright victory.

Home Professional Ash Mansell shared third place with Bristol Golf Centre’s Preavan Nayanah-Rajh on two-over while Goodwin has chopped Giuseppe Licata’s lead in the Total Triumph Order of Merit to fewer than 30 points.
