A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Jamie Clare was back in what is starting to become familiar territory after the second leg of the Titleist and FootJoy Assistants and Turier Scales-supported Under 30s Sprint Series at Radyr Golf Club, Cardiff.

The events are run in tandem and Clare went into them buoyed by winning his first appearance in the Total Triumph-sponsored Gloucester and Somerset PGA Winter Series.

Clare, a Year One Trainee attached to Long Sutton Golf Club, Somerset, sowed the seeds for that success with a blistering front nine.

And he negotiated the outward half at the south Wales venue in similar fashion, recording birdies at four of the last five holes to reach the turn in four-under.

Another birdie followed at the par-three 12th before his progress was checked by bogeys at 14 and 17.

However, that earlier birdie bonanza proved decisive as he posted a three-under par 67 to finish two shots clear of Tenby Golf Club’s Matt Moseley and James Frazer of Machynys Peninsula Golf and Country Club.

Clare’s victory follows him finishing tied-second in the first event at Minehead and he now leads the Order of Merit, 35 points ahead of Tidworth Garrison Golf Club’s James Black.
