Davenport Golf Club duo Jamie Howarth and Lewie Wilson (amateur) lead the PGA National Pro-Am Championship in Turkey after finishing their opening round on a score of 44.

A total of 12 teams from across the UK and Ireland qualified for the Grand Final this week, which is staged at the stunning PGA National Turkey (Antalya Golf Club).

Heading out last alongside Caerphilly Golf Club duo Darran Clark and Thomas Williams (a) at 8.50am, Howard and Wilson bounced back from a bogey at the third hole with birdies at holes six, seven and nine to end their back nine on two-under-par.

Three consecutive birdies at holes 10, 11 and 12 moved the Davenport duo into a good position and three more birdies at holes 14, 15 and 18 saw them finish on a total of points.

Sitting just two points behind in second place in Caerphilly pair Clark and Williams. They were also two-under-par heading into the back nine on the PGA Sultan course and a birdie at the last put them one point ahead of Ashby Decoy Golf Club and Oakmere Park Golf Club were are tied on 41 points in third position.

The action continues from Antalya Golf Club tomorrow (Wednesday) with round two getting underway at 8am.
