A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

PGA in England (East) will launch its new season this April with a schedule packed full of exciting playing opportunities.

The region will once more stage over 30 pro-ams, four Order of Merit tournaments and other traditional favourites.

And the East will also again support a series of national PGA events with regional qualifiers for the PGA Professional Championship, the Coca-Cola PGA Assistants’ Championship, the Golfbreaks PGA Fourball Championship, the English PGA Championship, the SkyCaddie PGA Pro-Captain Championship and the PGA National Pro-Am.

Luke Goddard’s defence of the Order of Merit crown will begin on June 28-29 when the £20,000 ‘Open Series’ takes place at Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club.

Three Rivers Golf & Country Club then hosts a two-day event (July 12-13) and the following month the East Anglian Open will be played at our staunch supporter, Ingrebourne Links (Aug 1-2). The concluding Order of Merit tournament will be the Colne Valley Classic (Aug 30-31), which proved such a success on its inaugural staging in 2022.

The 36-hole East Trainees Championship is inked in on August 7 at its regular venue, Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club. The Searles Spring Classic (Hunstanton, King’s Lynn) – April 26-27), the Summer Classic (Royal Cromer, Sheringham – Jul 4-5) and the Autumn Classic (Felixstowe Ferry, Woodbridge – Oct 2-3) are all in the diary and sure to be as well-subscribed as ever.

The season gets underway on April 21 with the Northwood Golf Club Pro-Am, although the regional members’ meeting and AGM will be held a couple of months earlier on Thursday, February 9.

PGA East Regional Manager, Gordon Campbell, said: “We are delighted to have such a strong playing schedule for members to enjoy. The Order of Merit rightly takes centre-stage, but the Spring, Summer and Autumn Classic are always incredibly popular with members. We also have a superb roster of pro-ams throughout the season – staged all across the region – offering opportunities and fun for PGA professionals and guests alike. As ever, we can’t wait to get started.”
