A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Our new system reflects the wider move towards a digital world, with the introduction of digital membership cards. It will be more convenient for Members and Trainees alike as well as ensuring information is immediately up to date.

Digital membership cards will be issued to all Members and Trainees from October this year.

The move comes in response to evolving Member preferences and a commitment to environmental sustainability and operational efficiency.

This change reflects a broader shift across industries towards digital solutions that offer greater convenience, improved security, and a significantly reduced environmental footprint. It also aligns with our ongoing investment in modernising our membership services, ensuring that our systems are fit for purpose in an increasingly digital world.

Equally important is our responsibility to reduce our environmental impact. Producing and distributing thousands of plastic cards each year contributes significantly to our carbon footprint. By shifting to digital cards as standard, we are taking a meaningful step towards sustainability – a goal we know our Members share.

Digital cards can be delivered instantly via email, stored in smartphone apps and updated dynamically and reduce the environmental impact of producing and distributing thousands of plastic cards each year. The digital format allows for immediate updates to your membership details and offers the same verification for events as a physical card.

Upon joining or renewing your membership in October 2025, you will receive an email asking you to download an app containing your digital card.

For Members who need a physical card or lack access to the required technology, physical cards will still be available on an opt-in basis for 2025/26. To request a physical card, please contact the Membership Department or update your preferences through the Member’s portal on the website by Friday 14 November. Physical cards will be posted in mid-November.

We are committed to a smooth transition, and the Membership Department will provide step-by-step guidance and support on request.

We are confident this change will enhance the strong relationship between The PGA and our Members/Trainees – thank you for your continued loyalty and support.

We look forward to delivering a more efficient, sustainable and progressive membership experience in 2025 and beyond.

How digital cards work:

Upon joining or renewing your membership in October, you will receive an email asking you to download an app to your Apple or Android phone or digital device. Your digital card will contain all the same information as its physical counterpart and will appear in this app.

The digital format also allows us to enhance your experience. For example, updates to your membership details – such as changes to your designation / Member status – can be reflected immediately, ensuring that your card always remains accurate and up to date.

Furthermore, when attending events presenting your digital card will provide the same verification as the traditional card, without the need to carry a separate item.

For fully qualified Members who need a physical membership card or lack access to the required technology, physical cards will still be available on an opt-in basis. To request a physical card either visit PGA Information under your PGA Profile or contact Membership by emailing [email protected] or phone +44 (0)1675 470333.
