A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

John Harrison made use of his local knowledge after winning the 2023 PGA Super 60’s Championship alongside amateur Viv Hutchinson (Hexham).

The PGA Super 60’s Championship was first staged back in 1994 and was created in response to the increasing popularity of senior’s golf for professionals and amateurs.

This year’s championship was held at Matfen Country Hotel, Spa & Golf Estate and was played on a betterball basis over 27 holes due to inclement weather conditions, which halted play on day one.

Harrison is based at the host venue for this year’s championship and along with partner Hutchinson, they produced some excellent golf in difficult, wet conditions to be crowned 2023 champions.

Harrison and Hutchinson emerged victorious after posting a Stableford total of 65, finishing one point ahead of second-placed Graeme Bell and John Taylor (a).

In third position on 63 points was John King (Lindrick Golf Club) and Paul Ainger (a). Elsewhere, PGA Captain Tim Rouse (Northamptonshire Golf Club) finished tied 10th alongside amateur Phil Beswick with scores of 40 and 19 for a Stableford total of 59.

Michael and Stewart Steadman (pictured) were presented with the Superb 70’s trophy for their performance this week. The duo followed up their opening round total of 36 with 21 on day two to finish on a total of 57.
