Stephen Moriarty has been named Leadbetter Golf Academy (LGA) Instructor of the Year for 2022 in recognition of his commitment, passion and dedication to golf.
A long-standing PGA Member, Moriarty has been a driving force behind the success of the LGA at Laguna Practice in Singapore.
Moriarty heads up the highly qualified team of coaches at Laguna National Golf Resort Club, while also training and managing a regional team of coaches across five locations in three countries.
“Receiving recognition from your peers feels like a validation of all the effort and work put in over the years as a Leadbetter coach,” said Moriarty, who began his Leadbetter career in 2006 in South Korea.
“It feels like a significant milestone in my career and certainly puts into perspective how far I’ve come since becoming an assistant coach in the United Kingdom.
“There have been some difficult decisions about career moves over the years, and working abroad away from family isn’t always easy, but moments like this are really reassuring that I’ve made good decisions and it’s certainly all been a worthwhile endeavour. It’s led me to where I am today and I’m very proud of that.”
PGA Master Professional, David Leadbetter, one of the foremost golf coaches for the best part of four decades, commented: “Stephen has been an integral part of the growth of the Leadbetter academies in Asia. His knowledge, passion and organisational skills have been second to none and his award as Instructor of the Year is well deserved.”
A joint venture between Laguna National and Leadbetter, the Academy at Laguna Practice is staffed with a full complement of accredited LGA professionals. Under Moriarty’s leadership, Leadbetter is bullish for the future prospects.
He said: “We were so pleased to set up our Academy in Singapore at Laguna National Golf Resort Club. It’s been fantastic to see the growth and strength of the team at Laguna National and we are excited for the future of the Leadbetter Academy there.
“Golf is growing tremendously in Asia and Singapore has unbelievable potential. We look forward to helping promote the game at every level and also helping produce world class players to appear on the world stage.
