Adam Keogh, Lead Coach and Academy Manager at The National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa, has been awarded PGA Midlands Player of the Year for 2021.
It was a successful season for Keogh. The highlight came when he won the English PGA Championship at Bowood Golf & Country Club last July, winning by a remarkable seven shots. Keogh then finished off the year in style by winning the EH Smith Midland Professional Championship, one of the oldest tournaments in professional golf, at Moseley Golf Club in September.
Speaking after picking up his award, Keogh said:
“I am honoured. It is always nice to receive an award from your peers. The cherry on the cake was definitely winning the English PGA Championship. Following that my golf went from strength to strength. Overall, I think what pleased me most was the quality of my scoring over the year. When I played well I managed to score really heavily, which is obviously exactly what you are trying to do.”
Considering what inspired his successful year, Keogh continued:
“In May last year I changed jobs. It gave me a little bit more free time and helped me to feel refreshed. Having a few less plates to spin, naturally when I was playing tournament golf I was mentally a bit more free to focus solely on my golf.”
Despite his success, Keogh has no plans on slowing down in 2022. He tells us his plans for the season and his ultimate overall goal:
“As a golfer you always aspire to win. There are plenty of good opportunities ahead for 2022, so I want to just keep moving forward. I don’t want to do anything too different, but I will keep practising where I can to try to squeeze a little more performance out of my game.”
“The pinnacle of the club professional tournament world is the PGA Professional Championship and trying to get into the team to represent GB&I for the PGA Cup. It is just one tournament, so my whole season won’t be pinned on that. However, ultimately that is what I aspire towards, so I will be trying my best to do well there.”
Keogh was presented with his certificate at the PGA Midlands Members Meeting held at Kings Norton Golf Club. Fellow winners included Hannah Crump, PGA Midlands Coach of the Year 2021 and Angus Hoare, PGA Midlands Professional of the Year 2021.
