A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Matthew Cort and Daniel Whitby-Smith will lead the Great Britain & Ireland charge after they were announced as the first pairing for the Friday fourballs in the 30th PGA Cup matches against the United States.

Cort (Beedles Lake Golf Club) is set to make is third PGA Cup appearance, while Whitby-Smith’s (Drayton Park Golf Club) debut match is against American duo Michael Block and Larkin Gross. The first fourball match tees off at 7.30am.

In the second match on the opening day, Scotsman Greig Hutcheon is paired alongside debutant James Ruth as they take on Alex Beach and Ben Polland.

Irishman David Higgins and Ashley Mansell come up against Ryan Vermeer and Jesse Mueller in match three, while Simon Thornton and Adam Keogh face Frank Bensel Jr. and Omar Uresti.

Commenting on his selection, Great Britain & Ireland Captain, David (DJ) Russell, said: “The opening fourballs is a chance for the more experienced players who have played in the PGA Cup before to bring a few of the youngers players through and give them a chance to blood them into it into the first series of matches. They’re all really strong decisions so there’s lots of easy decisions to make.”
