Since being established almost 125 years ago, the Association has remained steadfast in its commitment to serving the needs of its Members. This long-standing focus has underpinned every aspect of the Association’s work and purpose, from professional development and education to representation and support.
Recent changes to the governance structure have been carefully designed to strengthen this commitment, building on the excellent work already undertaken by the Regions, Counties and Branches across England, Wales and Ireland, while also reflecting the successful model long established in Scotland. These enhancements are intended to improve the Association’s ability to understand, respond to and anticipate the evolving needs of Members.
Beyond modernising how the Association operates, these refinements also reaffirm The PGA’s commitment to ensuring that Members remain at the heart of every decision, action and initiative, in the pursuit of professional excellence and collective progress.
By building on its enduring mission to improve the personal and professional lives of Members, the Association aims to reinforce its role as a trusted organisation — one that listens, adapts and leads with the interests of its Members firmly in mind.
The fundamental objective of the restructure is to ensure that ALL PGA Members have the opportunity to sit on ALL Committees of the Association. It is believed that this change will ensure the broad diversity of our Membership — in terms of role and experience, both professional and personal — is reflected in the decision-making mechanisms of the Association, fostering more informed and meaningful outcomes.
Regional Committees will be committed to creating an inclusive environment that welcomes a wide range of perspectives. They will value representation from across backgrounds and viewpoints, recognising that a strong Committee reflects the diversity of the PGA Membership itself.
Appointments to Regional Committees will follow a predetermined and transparent process, with two Committee Members rotating off each year. This ensures that opportunities to serve arise annually as existing terms conclude. Such a structure promotes both continuity and renewal, enabling fresh perspectives to complement established experience within each Committee.
With only eight seats on each Regional Committee, not all applicants will be successful — for example, if the current Committee already includes individuals with similar skills or experience. Members are strongly encouraged not to lose heart, but to remain engaged and reapply when future vacancies arise. This ongoing commitment and willingness to contribute are vital to maintaining the strength, balance and diversity of the Committee.
The opportunity to serve on a Regional Committee will be widely promoted across all PGA platforms, including The PGA Jobs in Golf platform, ensuring all eligible Members are informed and encouraged to apply.
Members are invited to express their interest in serving on their Regional Committee. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must hold full Accredited, Honorary or Life Membership status. Please note that retired Members are not eligible to serve on Regional Committees.
All PGA Members with a commitment to supporting both the Association and their fellow Members are encouraged to express an interest in serving.
