A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Graeme Robertson’s prolific campaign on the Arnold Clark Tartan Tour continued as he shared the honours in the Tomatin Highland Golf Links Pro-Am.

The Grangemouth pro, who had already won the Northern Open and the Loch Lomond Whiskies’ Scottish PGA Championship during a profitable season on the domestic circuit, finished tied at the top with Chris Maclean in the 54-hole rotation of Castle Stuart, Nairn and Royal Dornoch.

“I’m getting used to this,” smiled Robertson, having finished with a 12-under aggregate after three days of keenly contested competition over a trio of rigorous highland links courses.

“This is by far my best season as a golfer. I’m just playing consistently well and I’ve not had any drop-offs in form.

“There were no real fireworks, it was just really solid golf over three brilliant courses. They are a true test.”

Playing in the order of Royal Dornoch, Nairn and Castle Stuart, Robertson reeled off rounds of 66, 68 and 67.

Maclean, who played a rotation of Castle Stuart, Dornoch and Nairn, posted a 66, a 68 and a 67 as the Hayston assistant underlined his competitive zeal.

Robertson had a chance to win it outright on his final hole at Castle Stuart but his eagle putt from around 18-feet just caught the edge of the cup and stayed out.

Maclean was a distant second to the all-conquering Robertson in August’s Scottish PGA Championship at Dalmahoy and was delighted to push him all the way in this celebration of links golf in the highlands.

“Graeme is a large thorn in our side,” chuckled Maclean of The PGA in Scotland’s dominant force. “But I’ll take this. It’s been another great week over three proper golf courses.”

The leading duo, who finished a stroke ahead of Paul O’Hara, both picked up cheques for £6000.
