The third staging of the Women’s PGA Cup is scheduled for the beginning of October 2024 in the USA and The PGA has now confirmed its selection process for the event.
The Great Britain & Ireland team put in strong performances in the previous two tournaments, and confidence is high that 2024 will be no exception.
The WPGA committee has considered a number of options aimed at selecting the strongest possible GB&I team of FIVE qualified WPGA Members for the next biennial contest, and has decided that this objective is best served by creating: a two-year WPGA Championship combined points list; and a two-year OCEANTEE WPGA Series combined points list, which will run throughout the competitive seasons in 2023 and 2024.
This selection arrangement means that there can be no direct qualification for the 2024 team based solely on 2023 results, rather that the team will be confirmed on the results of two full playing seasons.
Team GB&I will consequently comprise of:
- The top two from the 2023/2024 WPGA Championship points list.
- The top two from the 2023/2024 OCEANTEE WPGA Series points list not already qualified.
- One Captains Pick.
Points will be weighted towards performance in 2024 to recognise more recent form in the lead-up to the WPGA Cup, with 100% of points allocated in 2023 and 150% in the second year. Like the OCEANTEE WPGA Series OOM itself, a Member’s best 5 points finishes in each year will count as the events on the combined Series list.
