An absorbing season of keenly contested competition on the Tartan Tour will draw to a conclusion this week with the inaugural Arnold Clark Tour Championship over the King’s Course at Gleneagles.
The top-10 players on the domestic circuit’s final Order of Merit will come together at the PGA in Scotland’s Perthshire HQ for an 18-hole Pro-Am that will celebrate and reward the efforts of players, sponsors and venue hosts throughout another successful campaign.
The race to win the 2022 Order of Merit went right to the wire with Craig Lee edging out the reigning No 1 Paul O’Hara to land the rankings title for the first time in his long career.
Lee and O’Hara will both tee-up at Gleneagles with Loch Lomond Whiskies Scottish PGA champion Alastair Forsyth and the Northern Open winner Greig Hutcheon also in the elite field.
The Arnold Clark Tour Championship was forged from a “meeting of minds” at the start of the year and David Longmuir, the manager of The PGA in Scotland, is hoping the end-of-season showpiece can become a regular feature on the Tartan Tour schedule.
“This is a nice way to bring the curtain down on what has been a very good season,” said Longmuir. “It came about through a meeting of minds as a way of recognising the top-10 players on the Order of Merit and giving the players an added incentive during the year.
"Our friends at Arnold Clark got on board with the idea very quickly and, with their very welcome support, we hope it’s something we can build on.
“Yes, it will be competitive and there is a little financial reward for the top-10 players but it’s also an opportunity for us at The PGA in Scotland to bring people together and say thank you to all our partners who have helped us throughout the season.”
