A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

After 54 holes of play and rounds of 64, 63 and 65, Jack Frances (Hadley Wood Golf Club) and Oliver Chesterman (Highgate Golf Club) won the PGA Fourball Championship by two shots with an overall score of 24-under-par.

With numerous pairings jostling for the top spot on the final day, the competition was fierce, but the pair finished strong to take the top spot at Carden Park Resort in Cheshire.

Frances said: “It's obviously really nice to win it with Ollie as we’ve known each other since we were about 14. We did quite well in 2022, so it's just nice to actually get a win this time - we've both dovetailed really well, Ollie was the king of the back nine this week and it's a great win for us.

“We've had our girlfriends here too - they've been our number one fans this week, I’d say they’ve been our 15th club in the bag, really, so it’s been good having them come along as well.”

Chesterman added: “The course has been great - it's firm, it's windy, but the greens have been great and condition-wise, it's fantastic. Winning's hard enough, you don't win often, so giving yourself a chance to win whenever you can is great. And obviously, to win, we’re buzzing.”

The pair were closely followed by those in second place on 22-under-par: Paul Hendriksen (Ivybridge Golf Club) & James Ruth (MiGolf), Gavin Hay (East Renfrewshire Golf Club) & Graeme McDougall (Bishopsbriggs Golf Club), Simon Lilly (Golfers Choice) & Daniel Whitby-Smith (Drayton Park Golf Club) and Greg Davies & Kieron Fowler.

David Llewellyn, Executive Head Professional at Carden Park, said: “It's been a great week. The weather's been awful at the beginning of every day, but it's turned out well in the end, and the standard of golf is incredible - nine-under-par just making the cut, it's tremendous.”
