A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Wildernesse Golf Club produced a dominant round to book their place in the St. James’s Place PGA National Pro-Am final in Turkey.

Gavin Bullock teamed up with PGA professional Phil Beever for the qualifying event at Kings Hill Golf Club in Kent.

But it was Beever who led the way as the pair totalled 49 points - five ahead of their nearest rivals, Michael Lowe and Paul Harris of Leatherhead Golf Club.

Now Beever and Bullock will play in the £34,000 showpiece final to be held on the PGA Sultan course at Antalya Golf Club, on November 29-30.

The result completes the list of qualifiers for this year’s event.

It means Bullock can add to the victories his wife has recorded at Wildernesse this year.

But he was full of praise for Beever who shot a round of 65 to make sure of the duo’s place in the final.

“It was all down to Phil, he played well but the course also suited me as well, I can be quite wayward off the tee, there was a bit of space for me out there,” said seven-handicapper Bullock, who has been a member at Wildernesse for 15 years and works as an accountant.

“I think we knew we could win as we approached the final three holes, but we were first out so we had no idea what was happening behind us.

“All we could do was beat the team we were paired with - and they finished second on the day.”

The triumph means a return to the final for Wildernesse Head Professional Beever who has played in the event before and has a reputation for working with some of the best coaches in the world.

“Phil and his team are the jewel in the crown at Wildernesse,” added Bullock.

“They’ve had a lot of success on and off the course. Phil has also been coaching my wife, who’s cleared up in the ladies’ section! Congratulations to her, under Phil’s tutelage.

“It’s nice, at the end of the season, to at least have contributed to the silverware and not be an also-ran in the household! A trip to Turkey is very good and it’ll be a brand-new experience for me, hopefully Phil continues the run of form that he’s in.”
