A warm welcome: PGA induction days inspire Year 1 Trainees

Guy Woodman (ProAgenda.com) and Adam Wootton (Oxford Golf Club) secured a memorable win at the 2025 PGA England & Wales Inter-County Championship, representing Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire (BB&O) at Ingrebourne Links.

The pair delivered two rounds of under-par golf to finish on -10 in the pairs event, edging out Kent by a single stroke.

Hosted at Ingrebourne Links in Essex – the host venue for the PGA Professional earlier this year – the PGA Inter-County Championship brought together top players from each PGA County. Competitors played a round of fourball on day one, followed by a more challenging foursomes format on day two.

Opening with a superb 64 in the fourball, they navigated trickier conditions to post a steady 70 in the alternate shot format of the second round– which was enough to seal the victory.

Reflecting on their win, Wootton commented: “It feels really good. Spending two days with one of your best mates, playing golf, you can’t go wrong.”

Discussing the change in format to that of a usual PGA Tournament, he added:

“It was interesting. We both put each other in a few different positions because you’re thinking of the next person hitting, so it is tricky – you’re trying to play safe. But you can’t say sorry. You’re not trying to do it.”

Woodman praised the course setup and highlighted the shift in mindset between the two formats: “Ingrebourne is a great course for both. On day one, it’s almost ignorance because you just get driver out and bomb it. We played well doing that.

“But [in round two], because you’re playing for your teammate, you don’t want to let them down and suddenly the course felt a little bit tighter. For me, I really struggled but Adam putted great and got me out of trouble which really sealed it for us.”

“I can’t even imagine the nerves the guys had at the Ryder Cup playing foursomes. It’s incredible.”

“We’ve known each other for years. We’re friends so we have a bond. I’m sure some of the teams out there had two guys brought together who don’t really know each other’s games that well.

"Because we have known each other for so long, it’s water off a duck’s back if we mess up. We’re not trying to do it but that has definitely helped.

“We’re just happy to represent them [BB&O] and it felt like a really good win.”

“Ingrebourne was in fantastic condition and it’s a really enjoyable place [to play]," said Wootton,

"We’d never been here before so it was interesting playing it blind but it was good fun.”
